Lifes little ups and downs

Things have gotten a bit interesting around the Schaeffer/Stavana household lately. I don’t know if it was blown in by the recent winds or what. What I do know is that wedding planning is helping me to learn to “just let some things go”. Most of you know that I am a pretty easy going person but when it comes to party planning, I plan every little detail. Well, the first hiccup in the wedding planning process has gone and thrown me for a loop. We are without a reception location at the moment.
The Forster Mansion was a beautiful location and super close to the church, which was a bonus. Due to their proximity to a retirement home as well as a neighbor who is located directly behind the venue, there have been multiple noise complaints. This led to the San Juan City Council revoking their original permit to hold events and issuing a temporary permit that is only good until March of 2010. They are currently working with the City Council to have that permit extended through the end of 2010. That puts us in a bind. If for some reason they are not issued a permit, we are 3 months out from our wedding date and no reception venue, no caterer, no nothing. So, we regretfully took our deposit back and are currently looking for a new venue. Thank you to everyone who has been so helpful in suggesting new locations. We are currently interviewing a few different venues and will hopefully have news soon!

Will you love her all your life? Will you take her as your wife?

I had been planning on sharing our engagement story in this next post, but I am still waiting on the “AJ version”. So instead, something fun I thought I would share:

Wedding Vows a la’ Dr. Suess.

Minister: Will you answer me right now
These questions, as your wedding vow?

Groom: Yes, I will answer right now
Your questions as my wedding vow.

Minister: Will you take her as your wife?
Will you love her all your life?

Groom: Yes, I take her as my wife,
Yes, I’ll love her all my life.

Minister: Will you have, and also hold
Just as you have at this time told?

Groom: Yes, I will have, and I will hold,
Just as I have at this time told,
Yes, I will love her all my life
As I now take her as my wife.

Minister: Will you love through good and bad?
Whether you’re happy or sad?

Groom: Yes, I’ll love through good and bad,
Whether we’re happy or sad,
Yes, I will have and I will hold
Just as I have already told,
Yes, I will love her all my life,
Yes, I will take her as my wife!

Minister: Will you love her if you’re rich?
Or if you’re poor, and in a ditch?

Groom: Yes, I’ll love her if we’re rich,
And I will love her in a ditch,
I’ll love her through good times and bad,
Whether we are happy or sad,
Yes, I will have, and I will hold
(I could have sworn this has been told!)
I promise to love all my life
This woman, as my lawful wife!

Minister: Will you love her when you’re fit,
And also when you’re feeling sick?

Groom: Yes, I’ll love her when we’re fit,
And when we’re hurt, and when we’re sick,
And I will love her when we’re rich
And I will love her in a ditch
And I will love through good and bad,
And I will love when glad or sad,
And I will have, and I will hold
Ten years from now a thousandfold,
Yes, I will love for my whole life
This lovely woman as my wife!

Minister: Will you love with all your heart?
Will you love till death you part?

Groom: Yes, I’ll love with all my heart
From now until death do us part,
And I will love her when we’re rich,
And when we’re broke and in a ditch,
And when we’re fit, and when we’re sick,
(Oh, CAN’T we get this finished quick?)
And I will love through good and bad,
And I will love when glad or sad,
And I will have, and I will hold,
And if I might now be so bold,
I’ll love her my entire life,
Yes, I WILL take her as my wife!

Minister: Then if you’ll take her as your wife,
And if you’ll love her all your life,
And if you’ll have, and if you’ll hold,
From now until the stars grow cold,
And if you’ll love through good and bad,
And whether you’re happy or sad,
And love in sickness, and in health,
And when you’re poor, and when in wealth,
And if you’ll love with all your heart,
From now until death do you part,
Yes, if you’ll love her through and through,
Please answer with these words:

Minister and Groom: I DO!

Engagement Party Time!

As promised but a bit late, here is an update of our crazy crazy life.  The past few weeks had me running around a bit, between clients, school and pulling off an engagement party for 40 people.  I am glad to say all turned out well.

I really love party planning and showing people a good time so I was definitely in my element with this party. My mom was out of town for the past week, otherwise she would have helped out more than she did.  Thank you mom  for all of your help and “throwing” us an amazing party!

Now for all of the fun details! Where to start? Well, we went with a fun summery palette for the party.  Red and white with blue.  Very fun and appropriate for the last weekend of summer. To take advantage of the wonderful Southern California weather, we held the party at Central Park in Rancho Santa Margarita.  And was it beautiful!  The sun was shining and the sky was clear, perfect for an afternoon BBQ. We had amazing food from Wood Ranch BBQ. It is so close, that if the wind is blowing just right, you can smell the meat smoking at our house. The food tastes just as amazing as it smells and I love the pesto rolls with their famous BBQ sauce.

So back to the fun colors and decorations! The invitations were done by a wonderful graphic artist, Kelly Crane. I have been lucky enough to work with and call Kelly a friend for 3 years now. Her work is beautiful and the attention to detail is amazing! I highly recommend her to anyone who is looking for any kind of artwork to be done.

I happened onto a blog for a photographer, Chenin Boutwell while researching wedding ideas and she had just thrown her friend a bridal shower in the  exact same colors as we had decided on!  Imagine my delight when she included the links to find her fun decorations.  I fell in love with these giant three foot balloons.

We were hoping for red, but Dana Party Supply (yes, they really are called Dana Party Supply) were all out but they did have 3 left in a great shade of blue.  These worked out great and made it so much easier for everyone to find us in the park. Fresh daisies and tulips livened up the tables.  Even the candy matched our color scheme!

One of my favorite things from the party was the “engaged!” banner I made. It turned out so much better than I could have hoped. I was so sad when I realized that I was so focused on making sure our guests had a good time, that I completely forgot to take pictures of the decorations! If anyone out there got pictures, send them our way!

The most important part of the engagement party was for our families to meet.  Well, some of our families to meet, the ones in the state of California.  Yes, that is right people, we have dated for eight years and our parents never met until the engagement party.  Why you ask?  It never came up.  Not until we realized how long it had been, and by that point we made ourselves so nervous about it.  I think we stressed ourselves out over nothing.  The day went beautifully.  My little nephew even made his first appearance in public since he was born.  He of, course, was the hit of the party!

Thank you to everyone who came out and helped us make our day special!

Coming soon to a blog near you

I know, I know. You are anxiously awaiting more news. I promise it is coming.  This week is going to be a very hectic one for me.  Some of it is wedding details, which I will share with you soon.  The rest is just my crazy life.  We are in the process of playing catch up after last weeks plague outbreak at casa Stavana/Schaeffer.  Don’t worry, we are both doing fine, in fact we each lost a few pounds, yay!

This weeks itinerary includes me massaging my butt off, as everyone seems to be hurting themselves right now.  Good for me because as of late the massage business has been somewhat slow, but bad for my sleep.  Fortunately for me there is this wonderful concoction called a non-fat latte.  On top of all of this, I have my very first Italian test tonight.  So, wish me luck and we’ll update you soon.

Nothing to do with the wedding, but exciting just the same

Okay maybe this has something to do with the wedding. The youngest member of the wedding party is making his debut today. That’s right, I am going to be an auntie today! My little sister is officially in labor and has been since 1:00am. The little bugger waited one day after his due date to decided to make his presence known. I will be posting pictures of Sawyer later. Hopefully in the next few hours!
